Euphoria star Angus Cloud, who died yesterday aged 25, lost his father to cancer four months ago and had ‘intensely struggled’ since, his family have said.

Conor Hickey died in his native Ireland in May shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Angus honoured his father in one of his final Instagram posts on July 14, which showed him in a red hoodie alongside the caption, ‘miss u breh’.

Remembered him as a ‘legend’ and a ‘gentle soul’ and a ‘force of nature’, the keen rugby player was born and raised in Ireland alongside three sisters before leaving for California in the 1980s, first moving to Los Angeles before moving to the Bay Area – where he set up home.

His actor son, who played drug dealer Fezco O’Neill in Euphoria, was found dead at the family’s home in Oakland – with reports claiming he had struggled with ‘severe suicidal thoughts’ after his father’s passing.

Mr Hickey was married to Angus’ mother, Lisa Cloud – an actress who starred in American Beauty and The Parent Trap.

They had three children – including Angus, who was born in Oakland on July 10, 1998, and daughters Molly and Fiona.

Despite living in the USA, Mr Hickey returned to County Meath every year for a ‘session’ with friends in a local pub, according to an obituary shared by the local Ashbourne Rugby Club.

The tribute revealed he had been captain of the rugby club in the 1982/93 season, hailing him as a ‘legend’ and ‘a force of nature in the back row’.

It told how he ‘loved’ his yearly meet ups at the Rolestown Inn, also known as the Kettles Hotel, where he discussed ‘fond memories’ of the rugby club with his friends.

‘May Conor’s gentle soul rest in peace,’ the obituary concluded.

Following Mr Hickey’s death, Angus travelled to Ireland for his burial last week.

A family statement said he had ‘intensely struggled’ with losing his father, who was his ‘best friend’.

Mr Hickey’s wife, Lisa Cloud, posted her own tribute to her partner which described the ‘big rowdy love’ they had shared.

She told how she had planted flowers in her husband’s old boots as a tribute to him and invited friends to come to a celebration of his life on Emeryville Marina in California.

Lisa made a 911 call to Oakland PD and Fire Department at around 11:30am yesterday to report her son had suffered a ‘possible overdose’, according to TMZ.

She also said that Angus did not have a pulse, with the actor declared dead when responders arrived.

Angus ‘intensely struggled’ with his father’s death, according to a family statement

The actor’s family confirmed his death in a statement on Monday afternoon.

‘It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today. As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways.

‘Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend,’ the statement continued.

‘Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.

‘We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter and love for everyone. We ask for privacy at this time as we are still processing this devastating loss.’

Tributes quickly flooded in for the actor from Euphoria producers, castmates and fellow actors.

HBO said in a statement: ‘We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud.

‘He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family.

‘We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time.’

Angus was one of the breakout stars of Euphoria, appearing in both series of the Sam Levinson-directed drama alongside Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi.

He was most often in scenes alongside his partner in crime Ashtray, played by Javon Walton.

Sharing a picture of the pair on Instagram, Walton wrote: ‘Rest easy brother’ and later ‘forever family.’

Meanwhile, Kathrine Narducci, who played Angus’ on-screen grandmother Marie O’Neill in Euphoria, described him as a ‘gentle beautiful soul’ who ‘exited to soon’.

Storm Reid, who plays Zendaya’s on-screen younger sister Gia Bennett, shared a clip of Cloud laughing on the show to her Instagram Story, captioning it: ‘The tears just won’t stop.’

Euphoria director Levinson said: ‘There was no-one quite like Angus. He was too special, too talented and way too young to leave us so soon.

‘He also struggled, like many of us, with addiction and depression. I hope he knew how many hearts he touched.

‘I loved him. I always will. Rest in peace and God Bless his family.’
