Ellen DeGeneres Destroyed Over Toxic Workplace Scandal As She Ends Her Show

Ellen DeGeneres is ending her show in 2022 and though she said it’s not due to her toxic workplace scandal, she did say she was destroyed by the allegations made against her. Ellen began the eponymous talk show on September 8, 2003, and the show was an amazing success. Ellen followed in Oprah Winfrey’s footsteps and went on to have one of the most popular daytime talk shows in history. The Ellen DeGeneres Show garnered its host multiple Emmy wins and Golden Globe nominations but all of that came to a crashing halt when cancel culture came for Ellen.

It all began with a tweet on March 20, 2020, by Kevin T. Porter. He tweeted the following and no one could expect what would happen next!

Right now we all need a little kindness. You know, like Ellen DeGeneres always talks about! 😊❤️

She’s also notoriously one of the meanest people alive

The tweet went viral and it gathered more than 2,000 replies including multiple horror stories of Ellen’s alleged toxic behavior and treatment of everyone from former staff members to servers who waited on Ellen in local restaurants.

Soon, people would scrutinize Ellen’s behavior with former show guests and more outrage ensued. At first, Ellen chose not to respond to the scandal, but the backlash didn’t dissipate. The Ellen Show is currently in its 18th season and the show has lost more than one million viewers.

Though she says the scandal isn’t why she ended her show, others question if she’s telling the truth. You may see Kevin Porter’s original tweet below.

Ellen spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about her decision to end The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as well as her response to the public backlash that ensued following Porter’s tweet. Ellen DeGeneres stated the following.

With the talk show, all I cared about was spreading kindness and compassion and everything I stand for was being attacked, So, it destroyed me, honestly. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t. And it makes me really sad that there’s so much joy out there from negativity. It’s a culture now where there are just mean people, and it’s so foreign to me that people get joy out of that.
